Preheat oven to 375°. In a mixing bowl sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add shortening to the flour mixture, and “cut” into pea-sized balls, using knife or fork. Add buttermilk, and work dough into a ball. Use more buttermilk if needed to make dough slightly “sticky.”
Pre-heat oven to 360°. Cream butter and sugar together. Add beaten eggs, flour, buttermilk, vanilla, and salt. Beat ingredients, together thoroughly and pour into unbaked pie shell.
