Oct. 22, 2019 — The Blackwood Brothers Quartet has reported the sad news that Miriam “Mim” Blackwood, 97, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019. She was the wife of Gospel legend James Blackwood (The Blackwood Brothers), whom she met at church during her teenage years. They were wed on May 4, 1939, and remained married for 62 years until his passing in February 2002. The couple had two sons, James Jr. (Jimmy) and Billy Blackwood.
Mim had been in rehab following hip surgery in September, and in mid-October the quartet posted that hospice had been called in. They wrote, “Our mom is slipping from this life…. She has been the quintessential godly wife and mother. While we will miss her, we anticipate her homegoing. Thank you so much for your prayers during this time.”
The funeral service for Mim Blackwood will be Monday, Oct. 28, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon at Roller Family Funeral Home, 3651 Austin Peay Hwy., Memphis, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse, https://www.samaritanspurse.org/, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ or your favorite local charity.
Please remember Mim’s family and friends in prayer.
