Morganton, NC (June 4, 2019) — Singing News has learned that Jean Ollis passed away on June 2 following a period of declining health. She was the mother of Eric Ollis of The Ollis Family (pictured above with Jean), who is also the former piano player for The Dixie Melody Boys and The Whisnants. In addition to Eric, Mrs. Ollis is survived by her other son, Greg, four grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters, and many other relatives and friends.

Recently Mrs. Ollis traveled with The Ollis Family ministry, comprised of Eric, his wife Laura, and their sons, Payton and Michael (“Mikey”). The following statement was posted by Laura Ollis:

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15

What a journey our Lord has walked with Miss Jean. Early this morning He walked through and ushered her home, pain free and in peace.

She has been a big part of our ministry for the past 4 yrs, traveling full-time as we cared for her. She loved meeting so many of our friends and Pastors who would step up on the bus to say Hello or pray with her. Y’all became her friends, too.

Please pray for Mikey. She was as much his caregiver as we were hers. They were together from the first day of his life to the last day of hers.

Payton followed his Dad’s lead, stepping up to care for Nan. He learned to take care of all her medical needs. He gave her the hardest time with jokes and pranks … right up to yesterday. She loved every minute.

Please pray for Eric and Greg … Mamas and sons have a special bond.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center in Morganton, North Carolina. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Ridge Ministries, 5337 Pea Ridge Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
