Betty Sexton, Grandmother of Roland Kesterson, Goes to Be with the Lord Staff October 2, 2019 Lancing, TN (Oct. 1, 2019) — Roland Kesterson, lead singer for The Inspirations, reports that his grandmother, Mrs. Betty Sexton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 30, 2019, at age 98. Betty lived in the Pilot Mountain community and was a member of Pilot Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. She was a strong-willed woman who loved the Lord and her family. She was saved at a very young age and spent her life serving God. She read the Bible completely through many times and could quote many Scriptures by chapter and verse. She married Ira Sexton on December 6, 1941. She stood beside her husband as he preached God’s Word and pastored churches, and as they raised their family. Together they laid a solid foundation on which her family stands to this day. Betty was one of a family of 12 children born to Lewis S. Landrum and Leany Griffith Landrum. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ira Sexton; daughter, Wilda Jean Parks; parents, Lewis S. Landrum and Leany Landrum; brothers, Anderson Landrum, Joe Landrum, Louis Landrum, Noah Landrum, Love Landrum; sisters, Lucy Nelson, Noria Griffith, Sarah Sharp, Lilly Landrum, Genevie Hannah, Marie Guay; daughter-in-law, Novena Sexton; sons in-law David Garrett, J.R. Parks, and Clyde Walker. She is survived by her son, Joe Alvin Sexton; daughters, Mae Agle Garrett and Jewell Ann Kesterson (and husband Joe); 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2019, from 3–5 p.m. at Pilot Mountain Missionary Baptist Church (101 Pilot Mountain Rd., Lancing, TN), with funeral to follow at 5 p.m. Interment will be at Pilot Mountain Cemetery, 230 Annadel Cemetery Rd., Lancing, TN.
