Preheat oven to 375°. In a mixing bowl sift flour, baking powder, and salt.  Add shortening to the flour mixture, and “cut” into pea-sized balls, using knife or fork. Add buttermilk, and work dough into a ball.  Use more buttermilk if needed to make dough slightly “sticky.”

Formed in 1964, The Inspirations are one of Gospel music’s longest-standing quartets. The group’s distinct sound is instantly recognizable and has changed little across 57 years of recordings — no matter who was singing.

On February 11, the Fisk Jubilee Singers and The Erwins – both 2021 Grammy nominees for Best Roots Gospel Album – joined for an evening of music and friendship at Jubilee Hall on the historic Fisk University campus in Nashville. As they lifted their voices together on the Fisk Singers’ “Wade In The Water” under the direction of musical director Dr. Kwami, it was clear the groups had more in common than world-class talent.
