That's Just What Grace Does

Brian Free is a name in Southern Gospel Music that you will recognize immediately. In 1982 he joined Gold City and went on to become a favorite in Southern circles. After leaving GC he moved on to form his own group, Assurance.

While Brian and the group have enjoyed tremendous success in their musical careers, their first priority has and always will be their families. Brian and Pam have raised two sons, Ricky and Bryce, who are now heavily involved in the ministry. Their oldest, Ricky, and his wife,  Kelly, have two sons, Jude and Graham.

Ricky is a full-time songwriter, drummer, studio musician and the producer of all of BFA’s recordings. The group has recorded many of Ricky’s songs and continue to use talents on the drums on each of their CD’s. Bryce is a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, TN and creates the group’s graphic design and videography.

Bill Shivers, the lead singer, resides in Temple, Georgia with his wife Michelle and their three children, Brittany, Sara and Brent. The baritone part is furnished by Mike Rogers from Sandersville, Georgia. Mike and his wife, Bekki, are the parents of daughters Coraline and Everlee.

Southern Gospel has always been Brian’s first love, and fans have responded to his music by honoring him and Assurance with Dove Awards for Southern Gospel Performances of the Year in 2006 and 2014. The group has also made a number of notable television appearances, appearing on TBN, Gospel Music Channel, Prime Time Country on TNN, Hee Haw on CBS, The “Today Show” on NBC, and twenty-seven of the Gaither Video Series.

Songwriters Don Poythress,  Laura Allen and Michael Farren met for a songwriting session in Michael’s office at Gateway Church in Franklin, TN and the result was the song That’s Just What Grace Does.

THAT'S JUST WHAT GRACE DOES

by Laura Allen, Micahel Farren and Don Poythress

Only it can take a beggar and call him a saint
It can take an orphan and give him a name
And bring redemption to a heart you thought could never change
That's just what it does
That's just what it does

It takes the roads that I have chosen
The promises I've broken
And covers them with an all-consuming love
It breaks the lies that once held me back
Remind me again that I'm not who I was
That's just what grace does

Only it can take the years we thought we threw away
Making something beautiful of all those wasted days
A walking testimony, God's glory on display
That's just what it does, that's just what it does

It takes the roads that I have chosen
The promises I've broken
And covers them with an all-consuming love
It breaks the lies that once held me back
Remind me again that I'm not who I was
That's just what grace does

Oh, we can't outrun it
Oh, there's no escape
There's no one too far gone
That it's not strong enough to save

It takes the roads that I have chosen
The promises I've broken
And covers them with an all-consuming love
It breaks the lies that once held me back
Remind me again that I'm not who I was
That's just what grace does
