Great Is Thy Faithfulness

The Talleys are considered one of Christian music's most beloved and talented singing families. Their commitment to excellence and creativity has been their trademark since their notable career began. Their clear communication of the Gospel is a defining characteristic of a Talley concert.

The Talleys have enjoyed many years of success, including a Dove Award and numerous Singing News Fan Awards. They have performed together since 1996 with the current lineup of Roger, his wife Debra and their daughter Lauren. Today the Talleys are indeed a mainstay of Christian music.

Lauren has said, "When people hear our songs, we want them to clearly understand the Gospel in the lyrics, and know that God really can make a difference in their lives. Whether we're in front of thousands in a concert hall, or in a local church on a Sunday, our message is the same."

While many hymns are born out of a particular dramatic experience, Great Is Thy Faithfulness was simply the result of the author’s morning by morning realization of God’s personal faithfulness.

Thomas Obadiah Chisholm was born in a log cabin in Kentucky in 1866. Without the benefit of high school or advanced training, he began his career as a school teacher at the age of sixteen, in the same country schoolhouse where he had received his elementary training.

Chisholm, who later became a Methodist minister, explained toward the end of his life, “My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now.  Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”

Chisholm wrote a poem which he submitted to William M. Runyan, affiliated with the Moody Bible Institute, and Runyan set the lyrics to music. The result is the extremely popular song, Great Is Thy Faithfulness.

George Beverly Shea and the Billy Graham Crusade choirs helped make the song much more widely known in the United States.

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not,

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
